Mapmaking 2.5: MS & Upper Elementary

 Hi everyone,

It seems to be my pattern to attempt more than we can actually finish in five weeks. Today was no exception. Everyone is taking home unfinished projects.

The MS kids should have a large piece of poster board, colored paper to mount their vacation home floor plans/views onto. The finished project will have the floor plan in the middle, with the outside views around, and the name of their Dream Vacation House at the top. I’m sad I didn’t get to see them completed, but hopeful to see them in the flipgrid Expo!

The UE class felt like most like an art class today. It was fun - everyone worked at their pace to get their Fantasy Island projects on their way to completion. The end product will be the pizza box with the island on the bottom, the watercolor sunrise (or sunset) in the top, and a key that shows where the major features are within the grid. The kids all have their pizza boxes, watercolor backgrounds, some construction paper, and a lump of air drying clay (to make any 3D features). The clay takes 2 days to dry, and then can be chiseled and/or painted. The kids can be creative about what they put into their box in addition to the objects they make from the clay ... Maya is currently making some origami accessories for hers. Again, I’m sorry I didn’t get to see finished products, but looking forward to the Expo!

It was a fun, creative, and kind of hectic five weeks. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
