FAQ

1.  When does COOP meet?
We meet every Monday from 9:15 am-12:00 pm except on field trip days.

2. Where do you meet?
We meet in a church just west of Forest Park.

3. What grades do you serve?
Our classes are based on the number of students that we have and their ages.  For the 2021-2022 schoolyear, we will have 5 separate classes for PreK-8th grade: Kindergarten/1st Grade (K-1), Lower Elementary (LE), Middle Elementary (ME), Upper Elementary (UE), and Middle School (MS).  We generally do not strictly adhere to grade labels.  We place children into classes based on classroom readiness and abilities.  Parents, however, know their children best and can place them in the class that they think will be the best fit for their child.

4. What classes are available?
Each quarter, children attend a science class and an elective, typically art.

5. Are there field trips?
We also plan 3 or 4 field trips per semester that take place instead of a class that week.  There are fees associated with these trips that cover the cost of the trips and depend on how many children in your family attend.  Most fees do not exceed $40 per semester.

6. Can I drop off my child?
Because we are trying to reduce class size, we have fewer adults and will need most parents every week to run the Coop.  While in the past, we have had a drop-off option, during the COVID Season, we are unable to provide this feature.  As such, we REQUIRE parents to attend and be involved every week during the quarters they are assigned to help with the coop.  You can teach a class, be an assistant in a class, or help in the nursery.

7. How much does it cost?
We require a yearly Family Registration Fee to hold your spot in the COOP; this is $15 for Returning Families and $40 for New Families (this includes a $10 Background Check Fee for the participating parent).  We then require a $65 fee per child each semester (50% is non refundable) and/or $15 per child in the Nursery (3 and under).  The fees go towards paying teachers and supplies for the classes.  Lastly, there are variable fees for fieldtrips which usually do not exceed $40/semester.

$15 or $40 Family Reg. Fee
+ (# Children older than 3 * $65) + (# Children in Nursery * $15)
+ Fieldtrip Fees = 1st Sem. Total

(# Children older than 3 * $65) + (# Children age 3 * $15)
 + Fieldtrip Fees = 2nd Sem. Total

8. Is there homework?
Lower Elementary and up are given science homework. Younger children are not required to complete the written work but are asked to do the given experiment at home.  Older children, 3rd grade and up are expected to complete the science homework along with the experiment.

Grades 1st-8th may also be asked to take an art project home to complete.

9. Is there a nursery?
Our nursery is for those mothers who are serving at the coop as teachers, assistants, or nursery workers.

10. What time commitment is expected from the moms?
Moms are expected to be present at the coop from 9:00am-12:15pm serving as a teacher, assistant or nursery worker.

11. Can I teach a class with my newborn baby with me?
We understand how important it is for a newborn or young baby to be with their parent.  We also understand that it can be challenging at times to be caring for a newborn and giving your full attention to the students in your class.  We do not allow babies to be in a class of a sibling with a parent.  As a parent, you can spend time in the nursery with other moms and other kids, and as soon as your child is old enough to stay without you we would be thrilled to have you teach a class.

12.  Is your group exclusive to Christians?
No.  We want everyone to feel welcome and therefore do not teach the controversial topics (evolution, dinosaurs, reproduction) in our COOP.  We teach the children a Biblical song during morning assembly and sometimes use Bible stories during art, or science class and regularly pray at the beginning of each day and at snack time.

13. How do I register or who do I contact for more information?
To register please contact Sarah Bobell at memorialcoop@gmail.com.
